About
The Prison Books Project is an organization that provides free books to incarcerated persons, by request. Since February 2020, we have sent over 8500 books to incarcerated folks in the Hudson Valley and throughout New York State.
The project began its life at Binnacle Books in Beacon, NY, and now includes a number of Hudson Valley bookstores, including Blue Heron Books, Good Books, Half Moon Books, Oblong Books, Rough Draft Bar & Books, Stanza Books, and World's End Comics.
How it Works
Anyone incarcerated in New York State can send a request (with DIN) to:

Beacon, NY 12508
We’ll collect the request from our PO Box. We check it once a week.
One of our partner stores will order and display the book.
Customers purchase the book they want to sponsor, and write a note.
We ship the sponsored books back to the requester.
